Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii : These images were taken by Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii.   They were taken between 1909 and 1915 while he was working as photographer to Tsar Nicholas II.  

These very early color images were made from three seperate black and white glass plate negatives.   Each negative was exposed through a red, greed or blue gell.  Positive glass plates were made and sandwiched together with their corresponding color gells. The 6 layer composite would have been projected like a slide.

I have posted  my in progress efforts to repair and color correct a few of the images.

Color Rainbow Photographed Between 1909 and 1915 : This is probably the first color rainbow pictures ever taken.  It was take between 1909 and 1915 by Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii while he was working as photographer to Tsar Nicholas II.  It predates any kind of color film.
